How many of us eat when we are hungry and stop when we are full? How many of us are on the constant rollercoaster of under and then over eating? How the hell does one get off this unsettling ride?
Firstly, sack sergeant food scolder- that little annoying voice in your head that gives you what for when you eat something you perceive to be unsaintly. Self hate, frustration and anger will only make matters worse. Replace this with the voice of acceptance. Accept that your body needs ALL types of foods- in different quantities on different days. Try to focus on what foods make you feel good and make an effort to eat more of them rather than to pay any attention to foods you think you shouldn’t eat. What food gives you the energy that you need to fuel your life?
Don’t give food more credibility than it deserves. Your life has value independent from it, it makes a day neither better nor worse so keep perspective. Don’t let it make or break your day, it isn’t a game to win or lose at! Spend some time organising a nutritional meal plan and then get on with the rest of life…don’t let it dictate or be your life. Enjoy colours, the outdoors, people, arts…spend your time absorbing activities that fuel your soul. Food does not fuel your soul, it fuels your body.
Be easy on yourself, treat yourself as you would treat a friend. Be kind, be compassionate and release yourself from the tight rope of self judgement.
Let yourself be, let yourself live, set yourself free.
