In January this year, I realised that I needed help to get “my old self back” – I’d well and truly fallen off the “wellbeing wagon” – the usual suspects – takeaways, convenience meals, snacks, way too much wine and with excessive working to top it off – I felt as though I had lost control of me!!
Over the years, I’ve been pretty self motivated to eat well and exercise – I’ve never been into fad diets, but more so healthy living based on the 80/20 rule. But this time, I’d gained way too much weight, felt unhealthy, groggy and needed help to get back on track!
I’d never considered having or paying for a Personal Trainer – I mean, my social media feed is overflowing with PTs, Body Coaches, Nutrition experts and endless workouts – but this time, with my work commitments, I didn’t have the time or energy to filter the endless and sometimes contradictory content … so I started to search for a PT in my local area – and that was the next challenge, as I have no interest in boot camps or ‘no pain, no gain’ type PT’s or short term results – I was searching for a team who believed in my mental and physical wellbeing, promoted the healthy balance between food and exercise – and helped me to make the right food and exercise choices, based on me and my life – not a textbook or latest diet/exercise fad!
That’s exactly what I found at Free Spirit … tailored programmes, nutritional advice, varied and fun workouts in the comfort (that may be the wrong word after a few burpees!!) of my own home – which to my surprise, work you so hard, but without the shouting “no pain, no gain” PT!!
That brings me to Jess, one of the PT’s at Free Spirit and simply put she is brilliant, for me! Jess listens to how my day/week has been and adapts workouts for my body, even on the spot – doesn’t mean it’s any easier, but different, and releases the right hormones – as well as making sure I’m doing them right, to avoid injury!
The workouts are varied and fun – okay there are fundamental exercises which always feature, but it’s mixed up with weights or boxing or HITT or band routines … sometimes I’ve done so many different exercises, that I can’t remember what I’ve actually done, but my body sure knows!! Plus I can ask for the workout, so I can do it myself, to build my strength, for the next time!!
Jess always provides sensible and balanced advice on food and nutrition – you can tell it’s something Jess is really passionate about and a subject matter expert in! With the advice, I’ve started to eat so much more, of the right food, at the right time, as I need the energy to workout and stay happy … and yes it does include a glass of wine or two!
Personally, Free Spirit, Victoria and Jess work for me!! I’m back on track, and feel much leaner, healthier and brighter … eating well, exercising and enjoying being back in control of me!!
If you’re thinking about getting a PT or nutritional advice, or simply want support to get back on track, or take it to the next level – based on my experience, I’d have no hesitation in recommending Free Spirit!!
